High Fantasy Toxic Romance Royalty/Nobility Damsel Strong-Willed Engagement Breakup Secret Reveal Misunderstanding

A proud princess constantly scorned the dark monarch bound to protect her realm, unaware his secret guardianship held back enemy armies.

Bound by a dying forefather's final wish, the fearsome sovereign of the dark elven realm swears an oath to safeguard a human royal dynasty for six years. Concealing his ancient might behind a modest marriage pact, he silently repels demonic threats and keeps impending disaster away from the kingdom's borders.

Blind to his sacrifices, the righteous princess harbors deep prejudice against shadowy magic, treating his quiet devotion with open contempt and disdain. Only as the magical bond dissolves and hostile forces march upon the city does she confront the true cost of her arrogance.
