After thirteen years of raising a rescued wolf beastkin, a devoted woman overheard him sneering that he wished her popular cousin had chosen him instead.

Thirteen years after rescuing an abused wolf beastkin pup from an illegal black market, a kindhearted woman believes that years of tender care have established a bond of loyalty. Though her companion remains distant, she assumes he holds quiet appreciation for her sacrifices.

That heartfelt belief collapses when she overhears him mocking her devotion to other beastkin, openly wishing he had been adopted by her glamorous cheerleader cousin instead. Shaken to her core by his ingratitude, the disillusioned woman silently lets go of all affection and walks away.
